82 380 SL Clock, steering wheel and coupler

Hello All!
I want to know how to remove the steering wheel so I can get to the clock. It looses time. Then when I get to it, does anyone know what I need to do to fix it? I thought I would re-solder the parts first, but then what if that does not work.? I also need to reseal my windshield. rain floods into visor arms, courtesy lights and drips off the rear view mirror ON TO MY WINDOW SWITCHES!! YIKES! Oh yeah I need to replace my steering coupler. any threads on that one?
I'm new at this so thanks!

Well, clock was not keeping time so I repaired as instructed, Thank you rowdie for showing me where to find that info! However, After the two capacitors installed exactly as directed...it does not work at all! Dratz! Not a thing that inspires confidence in a clock repair person....All solder joints look good so now looking at de magnetizing drive wheel....

You might try posting on that thread over there. Maybe they have a solution. I am retired and don't pay attention to time. I sometimes look to see what the date is.

I recently repaired my completely shot steering coupler on my '85 380SL and the thread on that is here - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/sl-forum/321475-replaced-steering-coupler-my-r107.html There is another thread here - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/289876-116-steering-coupler-$6-00-upgrade.html

It's a little tricky and intimidating to get to it and the bolts can be very tight and are easy to strip. Just go slow and make sure you've got a good solid grip on the bolt before you lay on the torque.

Having rebuilt my coupler as opposed to getting a new one, I'm not sure that what I did is the best solution, for a number of reasons. It works and I don't plan on replacing it, but I just believe there is a better way.

If you decide to replace yours, I would ask that you not throw the old one away, rather if you would be kind enough to send it to me, I'd like to try a different solution, involving the casting of the urethane in place. I'll add pictures and procedures to the above thread about the experience and process.
