Brake job questions 2000 SL500

I am replacing my worn front pads on my SL500 to ceramics and wanted to know if there are any special tools I need. I've done tons of jobs on my other cars and tons of work on my W123. I noticed that the bolts for the valve covers on my SL are a star bit so I couldn't tighten them up. Just don't want to run into the same problem with the brakes.

I suggest you outfit your tool box with what your car needs for tools. Torx bits aren't expensive and are becoming more and more common.

IF you have ESP there is probably a special bleeding method......you should probably invest in the repair manual.

There is a cd manual available that came from MB, but it's a bear to navigate.

I relaxed them without incident. But the car squeeled like a freight train after. Then I read up about putting brake paste on them. That worked for about 10 miles and ot squeezed again So I took them off and caked up even more brake quiet on the back of the pads, the clip, even the pins that hold the pads in the caliper. Basically anywhere there is metal on the pads. Its still squeeling a little. Its driving me freaking crazy. Now sometime the ESP light comes on and I don't know why. It goes off when I shut the car off and restart it.

I'm still having brake squeeling issues. I have brake paste from mercedes source and that is suppose to go on the metal backing parts. a friend of mine worked for chrysler and brought me other brake paste that they used on the benz's. He said they would put the paste on the pad itself and let it dry. He said the squeeling is due to the rotors and this will fill in any uneven areas? does this sound right?
