1983 380SL Fuel Accumulator

Is it possible to test an accumulator or repair it even on an 83 380SL, it's a CIS system, with new fuel pump filter and a bypass relay (has the 10 amp fuse block on it)? Pardon please if this is posted twice but there seem to be some technical difficulties today, Thank You

You can test the accumulator by clamping the fuel return hose closed, remove the hose from the accumulator and run a different hose from the accumulator to a container.

A good accumulator will have a good bit of fuel run into the container, but when you run the fuel pump with this arrangement, the good accumulator will soon quit, while bad accumulator will continue indefinitely.

I see no way to repair an accumulator.

Thanks Abiby, I'll give it a try, I'm running out of options. I tried hooking up the battery charger to the fuel pump & it wouldn't even try to fire but if I undo the 12mm line just to the left of the pressure line(17mm) it'll run for a few minutes. I just put what I thought was a Fuel pressure relay but turns out it was a bypass relay, so I guess I'll take a fuel pressure relay with me today, 30 miles out & 30 back. This is getting on my nerves. Thanks again I do appreciate it. Regards, Rich

For future reference the relay with the 10 amp fuse is the over voltage protection relay (OVP). The part number for your fuel pump relay is listed in the EPC. The on line service manual has the wiring diagram and component locations.

Fuel or no fuel

Thanks Rowdie, I just noticed that I think I meant to say fuel Pump relay. I'll write your info down so I'll remember it. It's gonna be a few days before I can make it back out but I'll take the new relay and look at a few other things after reading your post. Just for the log/record, there was a slight smell of electrical something or other going out or bad but the smell was obvious even with the top off. After the smell started it made it 4 miles or so back. Then wouldn't start. So your post is really helpful. Thanks again
