Remove the ash tray.
Remove ash tray frame. There are two screws at the back. There is an electrical plug on the left side of the frame that has to be unplugged.
There are two screws at the front of the shifter plate. Remove them. Lift the front slightly and slide the piece toward the rear to release the hidden rear pin then lift the piece up. Unplug the switches.

There is an on line service manual which describes this but it can be difficult to find the procedure. For future reference.

Jim , on mine I think I have a screw up under the footwell side flaps, perhaps not in the newer ones

I thought it was just the console shifter plate when it referred to the hazard switch. If it is the entire console that needs removal that is fully explained in the manual and requires a hell of a lot more than I described.

Wee tip. Put some masking tape across the shifter panel to stop the ashtray frame from scratching the lacquer when you pull it out.
