What Does This Part Do?
 

I'm in the process of flushing my AC system, because I sucked about 100cc of vacuum pump oil into it when I evacuated it. So, I had a local Indy, who admits he doesn't know too much about this particular system, blow compressed air through the suction lines in the attached photo.

The result was that no oil came out, but he thought that the canister on the high pressure line may be stopped up, because the pressure of the air coming out of the hose didn't seem to match the pressure of the air going into the hose.

So, now I'm wondering what that canister has in it, what it does, and whether I really need to replace these hoses, as they're around $500?

photo is missing, but if you opened the system up , its gotta be clean before you put it back, any AC person will tell you if you open a system , you need to replace drier at the very least. Expansion valves have to work and be clean, best way clean is to evacuate the system through a vacuum process and then refill

Take the car away from him now.

He does NOT understand A/C systems.

There is nothing wrong with your lines.

It sounds like the expansion valve remained in the system = not possible to blow through it.

It is NOT possible to BLOW excess oil out...

The system must be FLUSHED by someone with knowledge of automotive A/C systems.

The receiver/dryer MUST be replaced.

I spoke to a tech at the the local dealership, and he said that the canister on the high pressure line contains baffles that were designed to reduce the air pressure. So, that alleviated my anxiety about having to replace the lines.
