Did you try wiggling the steering wheel whilst turning the key?

Are you using a new key with the new tumbler?

Transmission in park (if automatic)?

Sorry.......I had to ask the obvious......

steering lock

Your steering lock needs to be replaced. If you get the key to turn don't turn it back to the locking position until you take it apart and replace the whole steering lock mechanism. It is relatively easy if the key will turn to position 1. Do a search on Ignition tumbler/ steering lock through the whole forum. There are lots of posts all over on the subject. If you can't get it to go after trying everything you must dremmel out the steering lock pin until it becomes free. I have done it twice now. The second time was not that hard. The steering wheel and/or seat may need removal for access on the r107.

I have drilled a hole in the collum where the lock locks and with a hook moved the lock and the key would turn. Then a screw so the lock never locks again. Good lock with it.

easy

IIRC just remove the nut and off it goes. look for the silver pin to drill out in the steering column. once drilled out then put the wheel on temporarily to help wiggle the lock out. The key should turn then you take out the tumbler then the switch on the back comes off. The switch on back of locking mech. wont come off unless key is turned to position one.

Unfortunately the '82 wheel is attached with a bolt not a nut. 10MM hex driver is is needed to remove. It has thread lock on the threads and can be a ***** to remove. There a threads here and on benzworld offering removal procedures.

key position

Be sure the switch is still in number one position. You may have to fiddle with the slot in the mechanism to free the pin. Turn the slot somewhere it should let the pin move. Also if you have your new one you can see how it works and which position is needed to have the pin come loose.
