1974 450 sl

I am wondering if you can remove the tranny from underneath without removing the motor. I have a 73 450 sl "Rusty and in need of body work" and a person is selling a 74 450 sl with a bad tranny and great body and motor. The 73 450 has a rebuilt tranny that could be removed and installed in the 74.

I did a re & re on my mani trani on floor stands. the rocker panels had to be 20" off the ground in order to wheel the trani in on my floor jack. I made a jig that bolted to the floor jack and the trani so that I could raise and lower AND tilt fwd and aft.

Worked out ok.

Thanks for the info. The car was not as pristine as the owner represented it/ pictured it. The motor hasn't been run in 8 years. I passed on it.
I will buy the body panels for the repair of my own 450sl. That has a great trani and motor. 6k rebuild for both.

Found a parts car and the doors and fender / hood 50 each. Ca car with no rust.
