R170 Roof Assistance

Here is my story: my parents purchased a 1999 SLK230 3 weeks ago. The top worked, and the prior owner indicated the front ram had been rebuilt. A week ago my sister was opening up the roof and it stopped when the trunk tipped back. In looking things over, the fluid level was low, then my dad found a pool of liquid behind the driver side rear wheel. He got everything closed, but heard it spewing fluid from the trunk ram on that side when latching. Disassembled the trunk, removed the two rams and had them rebuilt. Installed them yesterday and put new MB fluid in the reservoir. I hear the pump run, the trunk unlatch, but it won't open. If I release the pressure and open it by hand, I can get it to close and latch, but it still won't open. Made a little progress, maybe.... Ran it a few times, no change. Released the pressure, and moved the trunk up and down some. It then wouldn't close and latch. It would run the pump when trying to open, but the light would just blink when trying to close. Moved it around some more when the pressure was released, and then tried it. It raised the trunk itself, but very slowly. It would not raise the roof. It would close and latch the trunk just fine, and move up the small windows.

So currently. The trunk will open by itself and the pump sounds like it keeps going but the top will not open. Sometimes it will unlock the top, but not completely.

Where do I look next?

Thanks,
Chris

I know the guy posting on the Benzworld 129 forum from this company is very knowledgable.

Here's the web page of the company which also has links concerning DIY on your car.

We got it figured out. Though the rams may be self bleeding, the pump doesn't appear to be. After actuating the trunk several times the pressure was relieved via the brass bolt on the side. Then the top would open and close. Then relieved pressure one more time and now there doesn't seem to be a problem.
