Need Help With Wheel Bearing Problem
In another thread, "Need Help Stat on Wheel Bearing Installation Problem", which I posted in Tech Help a few weeks ago, I finally managed to replace the right front wheel bearings on my 380sl with Timkens -- that is, after installing the races upside down, removing them, correctly installing new ones along with a MB seal, and meticulously setting the end-play with a dial-gauge
However, lo and behold, the inner bearing was clunking along with the wheel's rotation the same way the old bearing was clunking -- though not as frequently -- and I could here the clunk when I rotated the rotor clockwise then counter-clockwise. So, I tore the hub apart, and replaced the new bearings with another set and seal, on the outside chance that the new ones were also bad. But the clunking is still there. As I'm at a complete loss as to what could be causing this clunking, and I'm certain it isn't tie rods or ball joints, I was hoping that someone here might have some idea where this clunking is coming from? Thanks very much in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Forgive me for asking...are you sure it is a bearing issue? What led you to believe it is?
