'91 300SL seat belt buckle re-color?

My seat belt buckles are in fine shape with the exception of the red colored areas. Those need some sort of re-coloring.

In addition to having to pull the seats out and completely replacing them, what other options do I have to bring the red color back?

Thanks,

AL

I had a partial success using the plastic bumper color restoring liquid. Just had some in the garage and tried it. But essentially the color has leached out of the plastic and I don't think repainting would hold up to use. Just have to live with pink latches.

On plastic parts in general, I've had some results burnishing the surface to remove oxidized plastic. The down side is keeping an even surface as sometimes plastic has dried / turned into dust.

How about a really new jumbo magic marker? The trick would be to let the liquid soak into the plastic making it more of a dye than a paint. You might have to soak the surface then _thoroughly_ wipe off excess or even go through the process a few times leaving enough soak time.

Just be careful with the light colored interior. . .
