1991 500 sl steering wheel adjustment

my 1991 500 sl steering wheel will move in and out but will not go up and down. When I push the button i hear a click and then nothing. What should I look for to fix this?

You will have to pull the under dash plastic and knee bolster to see if the motors are binding. ( maybe the instrument cluster too. ) I've had one of these columns apart but don't remember enough to give you specific direction.

Thanks for the information. Is there a way to raise it manually? Once I get it where I want it, I won't move it again.

In theory you could turn the motor shaft, but if things are bound up it might not move. ( or turning it it might unbind )
