87 560SL Chromed plastic side piece replacement.

87 560SL Chromed plastic side piece replacement. I have the replacement part yet cannot figure out how to install it. This is the piece that covers the interior side, near the arm rest piece, that covers all of the mechanical gear. The original piece was not removed by me so I have no clue. It appears the piece just "snaps" into place but without knowing for sure I am afraid of breaking the new piece unnecessarily.

It does just snap on. You can see the holes where the pins on the cover go. There are wire clips around the holes..

If the wire clips are missing, it will not snap into place. I used velcro on mine.
