1982 380 SL Very Bad Gas Smell
 
I am getting a very bad gas smell after driving the car for a while.
I have replaced the fuel system complete unit under the gas tank.All new hoses as well The gasket on the feeder tube and on the gas cap. Where can it becoming from

In the car? Outside the car? Have you checked for smells in the trunk?

Behind the bulkhead in your trunk is the actual fuel tank and expansion tank.

There are small hoses there that always get overlooked.

nobby is spot on, most issues are the hoses where they attach to the various nipples and such. Replace all It is a tedious process but usually eliminates the issue.
Also look under the car where the tank vents, usually in front or around the rear axle sometimes has a reverse filter attached. MAke sure it is open and clear.

Also look for wet injector hose lines in the engine bay

These are very prices for a piece of plastic tank

I highly doubt that the tank is the problem. But, as I said before, many old, cloth covered hoses back there that have been baking for 30 years.

And as Meltedpanda said, there is other hoses under the car that should be checked, as well. There is a pressure relief line running up to the front of the car to the charcoal canister....among others.
