No heat
Hello all,
I have a 1980 450sl with no heat. The control panel in the car seems to work as it should. It directs the air flow to the proper areas when the buttons are pushed. The servo seems to be rebuilt. The are some new "non-MB" stickers on it, it is very clean and has no cracks. I know, it doesn't mean the servo does operate correctly. What I'm wondering is, where would the heater control valve be located? Is it within the servo itself or is there a vacuum activated valve somewhere? Thanks in advance for any answers! Dwayne |

I found the heater control valve on EPC online, number 11 in the diagram.
I had an issue uploading the photo. Here's a link to it. My Photos By looking at the diagram, I would have to guess it is under the dash and/or behind the glove box. Anyone know for sure? Thanks! |

The pictured valve was used on the earlier model manual AC system. It is mounted on the firewall.

I listed my VIN in the Mercedes EPC system and it says it's in there.

Easy enough to see. It is mounted on the left side of the firewall. Right side when looking from the front. Just to the left of the brake booster.
If you go to the next page in the EPC it shows your system with servo and aux. water pump. |

Yep, my system is on the next page.
I think I got it. So if I have the servo set up on the passenger side of the firewall (and I do), then I do not have the heater control valve. Looking at the firewall by the brake booster, I do not see the heater control valve. There is a hose entering the firewall, but no heater control valve. So I can understand this...Inside the servo is the valve system which regulates the heat. A valve should open and close based on what I dial up on the wheeled climate control on the dash. Obviously, when I want heat, inside the servo, a valve would open allowing the hot water enter the heater core and visa versa and this is all contained in the servo...correct? Thanks for your patience. |

I have never owned a Mercedes with that climate control system. I really don't know how it works. I just know from reading other posts that it is complicated and prone to failure.
