parts car
I bought a 1977 450s l parts car today for $400.
Buying it for one reason, to upgrade some of the parts on my 1980 450sl. The '77 is a little rough and has sat for 3 years. Plenty of usable parts. Well driving it home, it had so much power and shifted so smoothly, now I'm thinking, who needs a parts car, why not 2 450sl's. When I got home, I explained to the wife that I wish the car ran like crap, I wouldn't even think about a second car. I'd feel good about parting it out. I'm thinking, it'll be a shame to part this car out. Man, what a dilemma! Anyone else ever have that happen to them? I'm pretty sure I'm parting it out, but man do I hate to do it! In the photos, the car looks really nice, but it is a little rust, is a repaint, interior is really nice. Has some hidden rust spots here and there. http://www.snapfish.com/library/share?w=snapfish_us&c=snapfish&l=en_US#4wfZXy_a60D4X2MxQT1zvw/AUS/27939296577070/SNAPFISH Last edited by junker68; 05-11-2016 at 08:50 PM. |

Selling many of the parts from the above car. Right now interior and body.
I'll post in the for sale section or email if you need a particular part. I'm located in Mahopac, NY, 10541 Thanks |

If it still runs and drives great, interior is great, body is not too bad, and you only gave $400, sounds like you stole it and it is worth much more than that as is. You could clean it up and turn it around and sell it for a few thousand and make a decent profit. Then buy another parts car. Sounds like it is too good to part out. Sitting 3 years is not that long to me, and many old Mercedes have been repainted so not a detriment unless it was a quick, crappy paint job.

Upon closer examination it needed a little more work than I anticipated, but it does run and shift beautifully.
It made little financial sense to do as you suggest, especially because it has all the parts I needed to get my 450 to where I want it. I'm just going to liquidate the parts that I do not need and possibly sell the engine/tranny as a rolling chassis and hopefully someone can use it and roll it to where it's got o go. So far, selling some parts I have been able to buy myself a new top! Thanks, Dwayne |
