560SL climate control temp sensor?

I am working on a 560SL climate control and found what looks like a temp sensor behind the radio. Can anyone confirm that this is what I think it is and where it goes??
Thanks in advance,
John

This appears to be the ambient temperature sensor, which measures the outside air temperature. It fastens to the black climate control box (large plenum chamber which exchanges air to various locations -- defrost vents, heat vents, a/c vents). You will likely have to remove the ash tray; unscrew/bolt the ash tray housing; unscrew the wood panel that the surrounds the temperature control panel on the dash. At this point, you will likely have the remove temperature control panel as well....but before you do that...take a flashlight and see if you can look behind the control panel and you'll see the large climate control box. On the front side of this large box (facing the rear of the car), you should see an opening where the ambient temperature sensor fastens to.

I hope others chime in with photos!!

I was wrong, the photo is the in-car temperature sensor that is on top of the dash...in the middle. It appears to have separated from the grill piece that's visible from the top of the dash. It's been 10 years since I've changed mine on my 560SL, but I believe you can access it easily by removing the glove box. If you end up doing this, it's a good time to change the hose that sensor connects to, as they deteriorate with age. If the hose is broken or leaks, there won't be any air drawn by the sensor and your desired temperature won't be obtained. Good luck!!

Thanks, you were spot on. The ambient temp sensor had broken loose from the piece that mounts through the dash. I removed the assembly from the dash and glued the sensor back into it. The hose was completely gone. I found an article that showed a picture of the hose and how to replace it.

Thanks again for all your help,
John
