380SL camshaft swap ?
Was ist los ?
Gentlemen again I am seeking advice. My ignorance and steep grade of learning is deminished ever so slightly with each question. In advance thank you ! My friend has a 380SL with rusty cams. Sad but true. He is an acomplished mechanic, but his new aquisition is challenging. I aquired a set of M117 cams that I never used. The cam numbers are ; 4801 GTS AE 5.m. 55 10+ The other one has. V.L. 4901 GTS. AE 55 10+ My question ? Would these cams work in a 380 motor & What can I expect ? Having these available is convienent for this project. He has preformed a sympathetic restoration & saving time & money is logical if this is possible. Your advice & comments are most welcome. Thank You. Rev. Buzz |

If those don't work, I have a set of Camshafts and Gears from a Euro 380SL
for sale. Good luck on the Engine Rebuild. |

RB:
The cams that you have, code#s 48/49, are for an iron block engine, and are manually adjusted, rather than employing hydraulic compensation as is used in the aluminum block engines. You need hydraulic cams. cwmoser should be able to inform you of the code#s from the cams that he is offering; they are stamped in the back of the rear journals. |
