Power steering question

How do you check the fluid in the power steering .there is a black cap on top which comes off,the there looks like a nut under the cap.it is a 1988 560 sl

Have you checked the owners manual? There is a section in the on line service manual. Model 107

Remove the nut and lid.

Inside the reservoir you will see a raised mark. Fill to that mark. Do not overfill. You may use a "turkey baster" to remove fluid. There is a filter at the bottom of the reservoir that should be changed now and then. So long as the fluid appears clean, don't obsess over it.

Don't use the baster on the turkey anymore.

That's fine,my question is how do I check the fluid,there is a black cap on the top then what do I do to open up the resevoir to check the fluid

After you remove the black cap, lift up and remove the lid on the reservoir.

It looks like there is a nut on the screw,do I unloosing the nut that hils the cap down
