Hot start issues 85 sl280 fuel injected
Starts fine cold.
When engine is hot it acts like it is flooded when starting. I have seen this problem posted before and I know a part needs replacement. What is the name of the part and where is it located on the engine? Thanks |

With all respect, could you elaborate a bit on the symptom(s) as you perceive it/them. For many folks, too much fuel, and too little fuel are indistinguishable. |

1. It is a 280SL not SL280.
2. How long does it sit before the hard start? If the problem occurs immediately after shutting off I don't know. If several minutes it is probably the accumulator. The accumulator is located above the fuel filter |

Engine will start if you do it shortly after shutting down.
If it sits for approx 3 minutes it does not want to start normally |

Have a look at this thread; your description suggests a leaky push valve. 1978 6.9 Hot Start Troubles |

My issue turned out to be 2-fold. The ignition module was on its way out (failed altogether a couple months later) and the boots for the vacuum lines going to the WUR were leaking, one was so loose it wasn't even attached. Replaced the vacuum line boots, and a new ignition module and it runs like clockwork. Not saying this is your problem, just pointing out that the accumulator CAN be a contributing factor, but often something else is present as well.

FWIW is shorthand for "For What It's Worth".
WUR is the "Warm-Up Regulator". Another one you'll see pretty often that took me a while to figure out is AFAIK - "As Far As I Know"
