Hot start issues 85 sl280 fuel injected

Starts fine cold.

When engine is hot it acts like it is flooded when starting.

I have seen this problem posted before and I know a part needs replacement.

What is the name of the part and where is it located on the engine?

Thanks

With all respect, could you elaborate a bit on the symptom(s) as you perceive it/them. For many folks, too much fuel, and too little fuel are indistinguishable.

1. It is a 280SL not SL280.

2. How long does it sit before the hard start? If the problem occurs immediately after shutting off I don't know. If several minutes it is probably the accumulator. The accumulator is located above the fuel filter

Engine will start if you do it shortly after shutting down.

If it sits for approx 3 minutes it does not want to start normally

Have a look at this thread; your description suggests a leaky push valve.

Same with my 500SL. It did HELP a little, but the stupidly embarrassing hot-start issue was still there, but at least then I could actually get it to sputter and catch. FWIW my accumulator was definitely toast.

My issue turned out to be 2-fold. The ignition module was on its way out (failed altogether a couple months later) and the boots for the vacuum lines going to the WUR were leaking, one was so loose it wasn't even attached.

Replaced the vacuum line boots, and a new ignition module and it runs like clockwork.

Not saying this is your problem, just pointing out that the accumulator CAN be a contributing factor, but often something else is present as well.

Please say what FWIW and WUR means. I'm new to this DIY stuff and do not know what a lot of these abbreviations mean. Is there a list of abbreviations available? Thanks

FWIW is shorthand for "For What It's Worth".

WUR is the "Warm-Up Regulator".

Another one you'll see pretty often that took me a while to figure out is AFAIK - "As Far As I Know"
