All can laugh now
I sold my 280 107 chasis and bought a 560 sl and have no books on it and I have searched for this silly question but, I can not open the gas door!! Help I am on empty! where is the latch? I picked it up and went straight to gas station and had to come home without. I dont want to force it but my 280 was manual just push. This one surely has a latch it is firm! Thanks Mike Warren

Push on the forward end of the door, it pivots open.

Yes thats how my other one was, this one has a latch controlled from some where in the car. I can see the latch and vac. line but not the release

There's not a latch on mine, but there is a big red button in the trunk behind the fuel filler door that I've never figured out it's use.

Your fuel door locks when you lock the doors and trunk. It has a small shaft that slides through a slot on the fuel door. It sounds like the locking device is stuck. Try applying pressure on the fuel door and lock and unlock the door a few times. this may free it up.. Good luck.

Looking at the Chassis and Body manual, the big red button I mentioned is the fuel filler flap actuator, part of the central locking system. I can't find where it says anything about what happens when you press the button. You might try doing that to see if it frees you flap.
I also can't seem to find anything about how to manually release the flap, but I also don't have my Maintenance Manual with me, maybe it's in there. Have you tried the owner's manual?
