Glove Box

what function does the knob serve within the glove compartment of a Mercedes 1978 450sl.

not aware of any there? Picture?

Could be aftermarket for something , or used to hold in glove box?

I would agree it is aftermarket. I have seen several 107s and no knob in the glove compartment.
