R & R 1984 380Sl Steering Coupling.

Just a FYI on this steering coupling replacement for customer.

I was sent a MTC part # 3538. Ref # 115-460-05-10.( Made in Taiwan )

If you use one....or indeed any coupling you might do the following :

Check that original fasteners will thread all the way through and that they don't bottom out on the threads of the bolts before they do.

This replacement coupling is about 3mm narrower across the clamping bosses.
So the original bolts will not clamp the boss to the steering shaft.

Either get a pair of machine 5mm hex head bolts or run a 8 x 1.25 die for more thread.
Also run a tap through the bosses to clear the paint and continue the threads all the way through or your original bolts will not tighten.

Never had this problem with OE coupling/s so if yours is aftermarket, this will save you frustration........

Yes...you will have to remove the exhaust cross over to get the box out !
