1991 300SL-24 transmission overfilled

Hey,
Having a dilemma here. Yesterday I had a good opportunity to check my transmission fluid, after a 30 minutes drive I was letting it idle for a few minutes and I discovered that it is over filled by at least 1 inch above the "max" mark on the dipstick. I should mention that it shifts nicely except for shifting kind of hard in to Over-Drive. I was thinking of extracting some fluid from the dipstick. I'm looking for some advice as I don't won't to "mess something up". No leaks whatsoever.

Pulling from the dip stick tube would be fine. I'd pull 2 qt then have some on hand to top off.

Dont run you auto with the atf fluid over the max .Did you check it out in the manual .Like in park with engine up to temp and running with service brake on full ,pull the dip stick out and wipe it with fluff free rag or old clean wash leather so no particals transfer to the dip stick before you put it back in the box The fluid should be within the two marks .Any more , then it will need removing .Pick up a syringe and secure a small pipe on to the end so you can get it in to the dipstick tube .Remove it till its under the top mark on the d/stick .
