Hey folks, I have recently purchased a 1980 450sl. It was garage kept(not running) for a couple of years. It would not start when I bought it, but after draining the fuel, and replacing the following items(Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, injectors and sleeves, battery, distributor cap and rotor button, plugs, wires, and ignition coil) I could get it to start up and idle. When I start it, just like most older cars it has a little high rpm level for about 30 sec then the idle drops(like it has warmed up). Giving it gas slowly with the pedal it will climb through the rev range but it struggles. Then after about 2 minutes it will stall out and die. Immediate restarts may or may not be successful, but if it does it stalls out again within a couple of seconds. Now what I have found is if I go around and unplug all the sensors in the top of the engine(Cold start, Oil temp, ect.) there is no change in this behavior. Could this mean that it is running without the control of the ICM as this is where all of these sensors are reporting to for fuel/air mix? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
