560 SEC radiator into a 450 SLC?

Has anyone put the 560 SEC aluminum radiator into the 450 SL or SLC?

Yes I know the 560 SEC top radiator hose if on the other side compared to the 450 SL radiator. It appears just changing to the 560 SEC upper radiator hose is the only water related change required. All MB radiators in the SL and SEC had hot water going into the top hose and cooler water coming out the bottom.

Aluminum works better for heat transfer compared to brass. There is even different aluminum fin configurations that can increase cooling.

The price of the aluminum 560 SEC radiators is between a third to half the price of an aluminum 450 SL radiator. Nissens is only $240, is MB approved replacement. But they can be found for as little as $139! Even found one for $119.

So far I haven't been able to find a three row 450 SL or 560 SEC radiator. Most only have the two rows, but I sure would like to find a three row.

Wonder if MB made a 3 row for tropical climates for either the 450 SL or the 560 SLC.

The reason I am not looking at the 560 SL is they changer the fittings from top/bottom to the sides.

Yes I know there will be a slight issue with the transmission cooler lines.

Also will be fitting with dual electric fans with a tight fitting housing.

Will a 126 radiator even FIT a 107? There could be other clearance issues. I know the mounting system is very different, the 107 clips in at the sides, the 126 has pegs at the bottom and spring clips at the top.

The 560 SEC is 16" x 26.2 inches usually 1.2 inches thick. I have just found some 3 row aluminum that are 1.6 inches thick. There is a dual 12" Summit electric fan that measures 26" x 15" and almost 4 inches thick. No big deal as the fixed fan uses 5 to 8 HP and is much wider than 4 inches.

This is all about extra cooling, the extra free HP and slightly better gas mileage is just a bonus.

The 450 SL is the same dimensions. Doesn't matter if they are the same size they can be made to fit using different brackets. That's the easy part.

I have owned quite a few 107's and 126's. The radiators do not swap across the ranges. If you want more cooling, get one made. The cost of a custom radiator is about the same as a 'off the shelf' Item.
