HEADLIGHT LIGHT CONTROL MODULE RELAY

I have a 92 500sl what does the head light control module relay do. I believe it is call N7 and sits behind the fuse box Also, what are the characteristics of a defective one"

Well, I think I will answer my own question the term relay is kind of a misnomer all this does is notifies you if a bulb is out and some times it will cause a bulb not to light if they are defective.
