Valve Cover Removal - Installation

Happy New Year!

I'm in the process of replacing the (single-row) timing chain on my '83 380SL and although successful in removing the valve covers, it wasn't entirely straightforward. From my (albeit limited) experience, I can see that there is a thick black rubber hose that runs the (horizontal) length of and just above the valve cover. I am fairly confident that with this hose temporarily removed I would be able to more easily reinstall the covers/gasket.

Might anyone have any knowledge of, experience with or instruction if / how to remove and replace?

Many thanks in advance.
Christopher

Perhaps looking up the part number will give you a lead on removal, there use to be a DIY on chain replacement on this forum but I can no longer find it
