8J16 Wheels on a 450SL

I have a 1980 model 450SL and bought a set of W8 chrome 8J16 ET34 wheels with 225/55 tires.
Will this set up fit my vehicle?
I put on wheel on the rear of the car today and it looks like I have only about 1/8" distance between the tire and rear shock.
Thanks for your help.

Gunter

Here's my 2 cents...

I have an SLC and I think the specs are going to be the same as your SL. The offset for our cars is 20mm, so your 34mm rim is 14mm to much. You may be able to use a 14mm spacer to move it out so it will fit. (I use spacers on my 300SD) Also, the 8" width sounds like it may be too wide, when added to a 14mm spacer. (I have 8 x 18 x 20mm rims with 235/40 tires on mine. Everything clears perfectly)

My suggestion is that you call Luke at the Tire Rack and ask him to help you. He is a wealth of information, and an expert with our particular cars. Some time ago, I bought used rims and tires (7.5 x 16 x 41mm offset) that wouldn't fit my 300SD. Bought spacers and longer lugs from Luke, mounted the set up and drove on them with no incident for over 2 years. Just bought a new set of tires from the Tire Rack last week for this car.

Hope some of this helps you :-)

Aloha,

Thumbs up

Thanks for the advise everybody.

I talked to Luke today and he told me that the wheels and tires will fit fine on my car and I shouldn't have any problems with it.

Thanks again

Gunter
