retrofitting 560SL front spoiler

Hi all. back after a long absence. A question for the group. I have recently acquired a rather unique show-quality 1984 Euro 380SL, its got small bumpers, dual timing chain, euro-spec horsepower. It's not a gray-market car exactly. Came to US as new, but with some equipment converted to US spec, it appears to have been a dealer factory import.

Anyway, I have been thinking of adding the later 86-89 front spoiler, but Performance Products says their spoiler will fit all large-bumper cars, but not small. After looking underneath both mine and under the front of a 560, I cannot see any obvious reason why that part would not retrofit. If anybody has any insight, would be appreciated, I must be missing something. If not its no big deal. I realize I should probably be hunting for the later 500SL part number, but the thought of trying to find that and then find the actual part is daunting. I thought I would try here first.

Thanks.
Mike

500SL is the same as the 560SL. 1077900488.
You can buy it for less. Check parts.com. Can't post the link here.
Member fonzi fitted one to a '73 450SL which has the small bumpers.

Mike,

There are two part numbers for the 107 front spoiler (air dam) and both would fit your Euro model bumpers: 1077900288 and A1077900488. For the Euro type there are two screw holes on the front chassis crossmember and you will need to drill two small holes on the centre tab of the spoiler to match the screw holes on the chassis to support the spoiler on the centre.

They are available here at PeachParts and elsewhere. Hope it helps

Hi Mike,

With regard to the above comment on my previous post, note the position of the new holes to be drilled on the centre tab of the spoiler marked with red arrows on the pic below. Hope this helps.

Lets us know how you get along with the installation...

Deltacom:

Do you know what could be the difference between this two part numbers?
