300SLD

Being the Diesel guy that I am, and hanging out in Diesel Discussion, I did not know that a separate SL forum existed!
My most recent acquisition is a 1985 380SL with an OM617 Diesel engine conversion. It is now a 300SLD: New to me '85 SL Diesel-repair and renew thread

Congrats. It is one of a kind car.

Mach4 asked for quite a steep price and hope you got it at a fair valu price. Have to check it out soon.

Car shows

I have brought the SLD to a few car shows lately. Today I went to the first annual car show at my local Calvary Chapel. It was well attended, with nearly 100 cars. For their first time, I would say it was very well organized and a great success. Of course they were mostly hot rods, customs, muscle cars, a couple "gassers", and the like. I think there were only four European cars= My SLD and three VW's. Only one Japanese truck that I remember seeing. It was a great mix of cars, and there was even four mini bikes! One of my favorite cars was a work-in-progress '65 Corvair with a Pontiac Supercharged V6 mounted amidship. The builder used many of the parts from the Pontiac donor including the entire drivetrain package, dashboard, radiator, brake system and wiring. It is a way-cool concept in my opinion. Next week I will be attending another show in the city about 20 miles away. It should be a good one too!

More photos

My friend won first place in his class with his 1955 Chevrolet 210 wagon. This Falcon had to be the coolest one I have ever seen!

Saw that car in person a few years ago. It was a sick ride. Had I not had my 380sl and knew it was being sold, I would have picked it up!

Hey Rich...."kudos" on snaggin the "shady spot" for your SLD. How, on earth, did you manage that? Nice work! The SLD looks great. Following your build and mods on here. Always interesting and quite impressive!

Thanks. I had a shady spot on the farthest away parking space, but the one up front opened up and I moved the car.

Two car shows this weekend

I took the SLD to two car shows this weekend. Saturday's show was at the Phelan Phun Days. Phelan is about 15 miles west of Hesperia where I live. They block off the main street and park cars on both sides. It was well attended because of a parade and other activities that day. There was about 110 cars there. There were some way cool cars on display. My favorite was a Buick Roadmaster.

Super Car Sunday

Every Sunday at Pierce College in Woodland Hills they have Super Car Sunday. The first Sunday of each month they have a featured marque. The featured marque this day was Porsche. There was probably over 1,000 cars there. Almost the entire parking lot was full. There was every kind of car one could imagine. This PT Cruiser was cool!

Frank's place

I have a friend (Frank) that lives only a few blocks from the college, so after the show, I went and payed him a visit. He collects Band Organs, Orchestrions, Music Boxes, Player Pianos, and the like. Many of them are 100+ years old. He has a fabulous collection, and we listened to music for a while. I had a 100 mile drive home, so I had to cut my visit short.....Rich
