1987 560sl heater box remove

Hi I have ithe heater box in 560SL undone and loose but cannot move it back far enough to clear aluminium heat pipes, so as to clear fire wall. It hits the cross member that goes from side to side. I have pulled the thick wiring loom out of the way but it still hits. Any thoughts please

I have a 1978 R107 so this may not apply. I had to remove the center vent parts that were attached by clips to the main box in order to have the heater core piping clear the firewall.

Do you have the lower part of the heat box removed?
