2003 SL 500 Motor Mount Renewal
WIS instructions for renewing the front motor mounts on a 2003 SL 500 (model 230.475, engine 113.963) call for the use of an engine lift ("engine carrier arm", #240 589 00 61 00), which currently retails for $3,271.20 from Mercedes.
Is this the only viable option for raising the engine off the motor mounts? Or can the engine be safely moved using a hydraulic jack and a block of wood supporting the oil pan or juncture of the transmission with the engine block? Or would the use of an engine hoist be a suitable alternative? The thought of a cracked oil pan leaves me to search for an alternate approach. Thanks. |

Sorry for the late review of your question but I changed both motor mounts in my 03 SL 500 with a floor jack. The driver's side mount is the challenge and required some bending of the power steering line that runs under the oil pan but all in all was a one-day project. You might want to look a YouTube video by a guy named Taverish. Cheers Socks
