1984 500 SL Euro steering box

Box is leaking. My Indy says the boxes are hard to find. Not sure if he doesn't want to do the job or what. Are there any other models that would swap steering boxes with this model? If not, where do I go...remove box and have it rebuilt?
Thx Mike!

500 SL has a 765.701 steering box, p/n 1074601901.
Would swap with many 114/115/116/123 models with 765.701 steering box.

I have more than one in good used condition taken from cars I parted at least 15 years ago. They don't accumulate miles in my semi conditioned insulated garage.

There are plenty of places that rebuild them or sell rebuilt units with yours in exchange. These are not really designed to be adjusted--though you can, it is very limited in that if you go too far, it will bind the gear. I bought a rebuilt one for a 450SL and it took all of the play out and made it feel much nicer. ***** to change though if you don't have a hoist and you will likely have to readjust the fuel pedal linkage when done.

I disagree on the adjustment statement. If adjusted correctly you can get the steering pretty much free play free. I have adjusted cars with well over 300K on them with excellent results.
