1985 280sl engine bearings needed
Nightmare engine pull. Started with needing to replace leaky rear main seal which requires pulling the engine. That lead to finding metal shavings on bottom of oil pan. Mechanic wants to replace main bearings and rod bearings. Seems that MBZ has no rod bearings anywhere in the world, and only one set of main bearings which has a one in five chance of being the correct size.
So is the 280 an abandoned engine by MBZ? The odds of finding a used 280 engine is slim in the USA? Is the body with no engine worth something? It has no rust. Anyone have thoughts on bearing availability other than MBZ? Hoping Rowdie reads this as he always has good advise to give. |

BirchsGarageMB@gmail.com has several 1970’s m110 motors. Let me count:
1) Brown 280slc 2) Maroon 280slc 3) A 280se w126 motor that’s been rebuilt on the floor There was a fourth but it was sold. I have a 1985 280se 4-speed that needs to be torn apart (smokes). Where are you located?
