window replacement-convertible
I have a cut in the convertible top window. (88 560 SL) Went to the local upholster
(only one for miles around.) He said "cannot replace just the window since MB heat seals them", and if he did try to replace the window it would only leak. He recommends replacing entire covertible top. Big bucks!!. Has anyone in this forum had a similar situation. Thanks for any help. John |

The top replacement is not that expensive, I did mine myself although not an easy job. Since my car is older, 76 450SL, I decided to go with the American made canvas one and am very pleased with the quality. This top can be bought for less than $300.00. The only rubber I had to replace was the rear body seal, couldn't be removed in one piece. If you decide to go that route email me and I will give you several good hints to make the job easier. Good luck.

Be careful with these cut-rate tops. Some don't look very good and some don't seal very well. You don't need wind blowing through when you hit 70mph.

Yes, you need to be careful of cheap tops, but buying a top with the "star"emblem isn't always necessary. I consider the "stayfast" brand very acceptable"

get,ltd Thanks for the information. I have looked at some tops on the web
for cost, etc. Where can I get info on the "stayfast" you refer to? Was putting on new top difficult? How long did it take? I would appreciate any tips you could give me, any special tools? etc. Thanks, John |
