I found a 1982 euro 500sl engine at the junkyard yesterday!
I went to find a couple 2 1/4" downpipes off a mustang to start on the stainless exhaust on my 85 500sel engine swap into my 380sl. I was telling the counterman about swapping 560 cams, intake, exhaust manifolds onto the 500 engine and he says: I have the engine on the shelf out of the stripped down 500sl out in the yard! It's listed as a 450sl in the inventory because 500sl's aren't in the software list. Complete from the 0 438 100 111 fuel distributor to tri y exhaust manifold. 65k original miles I stopped at Pierre's after picking it up, looking into the oil cap he pointed out the cam caps were stamped with numbers. I pulled the VC's when I got home, I was hoping for AMG cams but unfortunately, 08 and 09 cams, super clean under the valve covers and looks like had a recent valve job. I am not installing this engine into a 380sl, so I will be listing on ebay, then BAT. |
The engine model number (and serial #) is stamped into the top surface of the block behind the left hand cylinder head. It will begin 117.xxx -12-. What are the xxx numbers?

I could only upload 1 picture.
Gave up after repeatedly trying to post more. Other pix with engine # 117 962 12 were posted over at BW. |
