129 passenger seat cushion removal
Hi All-
I have a spring/wire that is nearly poking through the seat cushion on the passenger side of my 1992 500SL. I have read this post and attempted the removal on my car but I can not seem to get anywhere. Can anyone help? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-sl-discussion-forum/29201-500sl-seat-cushions-easy-remove.html?highlight=seat+removal Thanks for your help! |
Roll the seat back toward the rear of the car. Then, move the seat bottom up so you can see under it. There are two 10mm headed bolts on the seat frame at the front. Take them out and the seat bottom will pull up and out.

It seems like some years were the hex head bolts that Donnie mentioned and some years were phillips head, so be aware of that. It seems the earlier years were the phillips head.

Thanks so much Donnie & Gilly-
Gilly was correct, it was the phillips head that threw me off! Thanks so very much you two! |
Find lots of loose change?:)

When I removed the cushions on mine, I found some change, but with my wife and daughter usually occupying the SL, I discovered the mother lode of Chiclets and Altoids!

What did you find under yours?
I found golf tees, little golf scoring pencils, lots of small change and a packet of cigarettes that looked like they burned out under there. Also some grains of wheat sprouting in the damp carpet (that's why I was under there in the first place).

Lots of change! After what the stock market has done recently, I had to go ahead and check under the driver's cushion too!
I'm thinking about following the TV commercial where the couple invites visitors to sit on their couch. Once seated, they jostle the guests around trying to get the change to fall out of their pockets and in to the couch. From now on, any passenger will be getting a big 'ol slap on the back greeting from me! Thanks again Donnie and Gilly! |
Seat covering removal.

I followed the thread in removing the bottom seat cushion but I can't find out how to remove the seat covering. As you can see from the photos, the seam has came apart and I would like to close it before it gets any worse.
Does anybody know how to remove the seat covering? It seems to be hinged or under pressure. There are no screws/torx visible around the outside. Thanks for your help. :sun_smile |
That looks like a job for a professional. Take it to an auto upholstery shop and have it done correctly. It won't cost all that much.
