Adding an alarm to 450sl?

Have been contemplating adding an aftermarket alarm to a 1978 450sl. Was wondering if this is a good idea, that is, would it conflict with existing electronics? Would the keyless entry work with the '78 vacuum lock system? Would there be any special installation required? Or is this something any auto electronic shop can install?

Has anybody had any experience adding an an alarm to this model, and if so, success with any alarm brands/models, what to look for -- or avoid, etc?

Any insight is appreciated...

alarms

Don't know how an alarm would affect a 450sl but from past experience with two different cars I have noticed aftermarket alarms will give you electrical problems as do remote car starters.
I have experienced power drains with two different models, Viper and Titan. My mechanic told me if it's not factory installed don't install it.

Brian, I had a remote start installed on my 300e, works great, I love it. Wanted a keyless entry installed but AudioExpress said they could not do it with the vacume systems.

Keyless Remote Alarm

Brian,

On my 1988 560SL I installed an Ungo MS5000 alarm several years ago and it works well. It is able to unlock and lock the car remotely, lock the car doors when it is first started, and it also has the feature to open your garage door as well. I would not believe you should have a problem with the current car alarms available. I have never had a problem with mine nor does it conflict with anything electrical or otherwise with the car. Hope this helps.

Ben
