My compliments, Steve, very good camera work. Are you bound to secrecy on the year? Nicely detailed. Not to be rude, but are we seeing original or restored? High maintenance??

Randy

Cool

Hello, my name is Lynn Sorensen. I am 55 and living in sunny Southern California (real close to John Wayne's Orange County Airport and Newport Beach).

I bought the following 1989 560SL silver blue on dark blue top/interior in 1999 with 30K miles, tweeters in the door pockets, upgraded dash speakers, 6x9's in the rear, factory Becker cassette that I connect to my portable MP3 player. It currently has 60K miles with new 15" chrome wheels.

faster

OK! Here's a question for you guys. Which is quicker and which has more horsepower the euro 500SL or the US 560SL. This has been a burning question for me ever since i got my 500SL. I tried to figure out how to convert DIN to bhp but got lost in translation between the two. I would really like a True answer to this not a guess.

1982 500SL nearing the end of what I would call a "rejuvenation" as opposed to a "restoration". Lapis blue/blue. Unfortunately, I believe I will have to sell it when completed, so I don't think I'll be a member of this exclusive club for much longer. These are tremendous cars, both from an appearance and performance standpoint. I intend at some point to find another sometime down the road, but they are hard to find in decent shape.

I'm a newbie, just got an 83 500 SL. I'm finishing the restoration.
It's been painted, new top, windshield, emblems and badges, stainless muffler, water pump, brakes, shocks, springs, fuel pump, injectors... I'm having the seats redone (leather) visors, mirrors, A/C, tires and 15" Type 15 from the Tire Rack, K & N, etc.

I'd like to also try these Bosch +4 platinum sparkplugs and Jacobs ultra wires if I knew what part numbers would fit the 500SL.

Has anyone upgraded their Euro lights with the PIAA's "Super Whites" that claim can be installed with no other modifications?

I'm looking forward to getting my car out of teh restoration shop this Saturday! Thanks in advance for any advice you can bestow on this newbie! Mark

Just saw this old post but I want to be included. 1984 Euro 500SL with 101K miles. I bought the car this past June in Miami. It has been in Fla. all of its life so no rust though it has been repainted some years ago (Lapis Blue). Excellent palomino interior and orginal softtop that is due for replacement soon. Lots of extras like burl steering wheel, shifter knob, console box, sunglasses holder and updated 16 inch wheels and rims. This has always been my dream car and I am loving the heck out of it! I tried to add a pic but got an error message saying the file was too large..??

I'm in Atlanta with an '84 500SL Euro and an '82 380SL, so have my hands full tryin' to stay away from the dealers :-) and am most grateful for all the shared information.

Right now I'm havin' a problem with the ABS on the 'Euro', WDB 107 046, Engine 117 962.
The dash light stays on after the startup test. Any successful troubleshooting experience would be gratefully accepted.

Cordially,
Courtney

Hi all

Just entering this thread for the first time - ( mine is a 1988 Euro 300SL RHD - UK registered unrestored -pics later with the info)

I've got a book "somewhere" that gives the UK/European(300/500 etc) and US (560 etc) performances so when I find it I'll post the results but I seem to remember that the "original" Euro spec un-restricted cars (500 etc) - are more powerfull and faster than the larger engined US official imports (560 etc). However the "modified" Euro's - such as a 500 with added cat etc - may be different.

Cheers all

Jim

1984 500sl. I haven't had the car long (Jan 17th I think) and the first order of business was new cams and followers. I finally got it on the road a few days back and last night had a close encounter with a deer. When I get it back from the body shop I will get and post some pics.

I also have an '82 380sl. climbing into the 500 after that is like adding a jet pack to roller skates. This thing will scoot!!

Don't get me wrong, I love the 380 but there really is no comparison of the two from a power standpoint.

The warden likes the 380 better and that's ok with me. It keeps her out of "my" car.
