I was just wondering how many of us are out there.
PS. Pictures would be nice to see too.

I've got a 1982 Anthracite Grey 500sl with 82,000 miles. Picked it up last year for a song, and have been very happy until recently when I had to make extensive repairs (oh well, if I wanted cheap I should have gotten a Toyota).

Hey my euro friends:
1985 500sl 132,000 miles. I believe the color is referred to as Lapis Blue, Dark Blue Interior. I have had the top end of the engine rebuilt, head gaskets, rear main, water pump, new convertible top, driving lights, and tires. This was my father's car who passed away in 1993. My mother had it in Florida since then but it started to nickel and dime her so she handed me the keys for my 40th b-day in 2001. As I could never part with it I will rely on you all for assistance in keeping it running. Need to rebuild the steering box (adjusted to the max) and replace the Becker Mexico radio. Love the look of Ericdee's euro headlights and am negotiating with the wife for necessary funding. Was not an enthusiast before I acquired it, but good god to these things fly. I've learned that the euro engines are somewhat different from american versions i.e. love premium fuel. Mechanics are not fond of working on them either. I am a first time poster so please excuse my lengthy intro. Pictures will follow when time permits. |

I'm surprised not to see more of these posted. I see them all the time driving around Dallas. Mine's an '83, silver with navy interior. 78,000 miles. The amazing thing is literally not a single door ding after all these years. What I think sets it off is those 16-hole alloy wheels with super wide tires. I'd do pictures if I could ever figure out how.

Sorry, I'm cheating here. This is not a 500SL. Also, steering wheel is on the wrong side!

Ok, I'm in.
'85 500SL (Euro) w/90,000 miles...signal red...black leather interior. Body and paint like new since it lived in Houston after being brought into the states in '85. Just put relatively new 14" OE rims on it yesterday, along with chrome fender well trim. Spiffed up the appearance of it considerably. Numerous repairs since puchasing it last Dec: brakes, front calipers, master cylinder, climate control unit, steering box, tie rod ends, drag link, steering damper, fuel pump, fuel accumulator, soft top, timing chain, tensioner, and a few other things I don't recall off the top of my head. Also purchased OE carpet to replace sill pieces, hump piece and whatever else I can with what's left. (will pass along the address if anyone's interested. $55.00 for a piece 36" x 60"). Have some pictures, but like others here don't know how to post them.

No Picture Yet
My Wife and I have a 1985 500SL with Newer MB Alum Rims and we just installed a TimeValve Euro Spec Exhaust System. As soon as I learn to download my Digital Camera to the Computer I'll post a Picture. I am finding the seats very uncomfortable, Do I need to get the seats rebuilt? My wife finds the seats very comfortable. She is 5' 2" and 110 lbs... I'm 6' 0" and 250lbs am I too heavy for the Car?

CDN500SL,
Rebuilding the seats will help. I'm 6'2 and 200lbs and very comfortable in them, but before I replaced the seat springs I had a real hard time sitting still in them. It wasn't fun. http://www.worlduph.com/mb7.htm

That's my car, the last pic is before and the first ones are while it is been restored. I will keep posting until the car is done. I'm doing a full restoration including wheels.
