Smile I Finally Got My 107!!!!!!

I can't believe it!!! After more than 4 years I finally have one....I am the new owner of a 1977 Euro 450 SL. The car has complete documentation (including the stamped service booklet from Germany from purchase inspection onward) and is a beauty to behold. She is the deeper taupe/brown exterior with the light cream interior, bundt alloy wheels, and both tops. She just spent her first night in my driveway and looked gorgeous in the moonlight. I still need to completely wash & wax her exterior and am in the process of taking each of the carpet sections out and cleaning them thoroughly. I only have one problem so far - the hard top is stuck on the back pin and the small lever on the interior panel is not engaged at all (you could spin it around if the larger crank weren't in the way). I have read the many posts on how to "trip" the cable with a screwdriver or other tool, but can this work if the cable is detached from the handle?

Hope to post pictures soon.

Congratulations and welcome! Sounds like one beautiful-looking Benz.

After all, in words definitely not my own originally, "SL--Anything else is just a Mercedes."

For the hardtop back pin--If the latch will partially release and allow some space between the top and the car, a narrow-nosed visegrip can be used to rotate the pin as if you were unscrewing it from the hardtop (i.e., rearmost face of pin moving toward driver's side of car). Rotate it about 90 degrees and the hook on the car will no longer have any notch on the post to grip.

its also possible the small handle came loose causing it to spin freely. try removing the large handle by prying out the black insert and then have a look inside to see if you can get the small handle fastenned. also possibly use pliers to turn the mechanism that the small handle contols in the direction you need to allow the big handle to release.

When my top stuck, a friend and I lifted and rotated the top. Being careful, it came off without a problem. (I even removed it once by myself without a problem.) This way, you are not prying things off.

Once the top is off, you can determine the problem. Usually its the cable adjustment for the release.
