Help: AMG info, options history 500SL

Hello all,

I am currently looking for a 107 series Euro 500SL AMG. I'm hoping to find someone with knowledge regarding the identification of AMG accesories and parts. I would also like to know if their is a way to identify whether engine work had been performed on these vehicles. I have heard that AMG camshafts may have been installed and have markings.

There seems to be about as much bad info around as there is aftermarket and counterfit cars. Any help you might contribute would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at 321-917-2003 most anytime EST.

Regards Matt

I have never seen or heard of a factory engine modified AMG 107 - though I have seen examples with bodykits and Penta alloys. No doubt you could buy AMG cams as they entered the SLC as various group rally cars.

Not really, AMG of NorthAmerica got started in 1984 and they could have gotten their hands on some 107s from then until 1987 when they crashed/burned.

I'd be interested to know more - like I said this is the first I've heard of Euro 107s having any AMG engine options.

They were made until 1989 here.

Euro 500SL

Hey Matt,

If you are interested I have a 1984 500SL with 97K original miles. I just had the transmission rebuilt and the car is clean. I was in the process of having it painted, due to some rust on the left front fender and small surface rust on the right rear lower quarter panel. You could take this opportunity to make your own AMG clone, of a very well sorted and documented car. If you are interested e-mail me at collin380@yahoo.com.

Regards,

Alex
