SL500 tranny swapping

I have a 98 SL500 and the tranny is starting to stall 2 seconds when going from reverse to park or drive. I have a 94 SL500 that I could use or a 98CL500 that I could use to swap. Will either of these fit? I prefer to use the 94SL500 if I can. If neither option will work is there an internet website that sells them? Also, there is a growling noise coming from the front. Not a grinding (metal on metal). I just had the brakes and rotors replaced and they work great but, this noise isn't from them (I don't think). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sam

What do you mean when you say "stall"? The 98 SL has the 722.6 electric/hydraulic transmission and is a breeze to fix. Unless it literally blew up there's no reason why it can't be re-built. Any transmission re-builder who's ever done one would agree that it's one of the easiest jobs there is. Don't forget the possibility that the problem could be electrical. The transmission has it's own control unit and they've been known to cause problems. I've also seen cases where the ATF actually "wicks" up the wiring harness and causes damage to both the harness and the ECU. Before you start swapping things around you should probably find out exactly what the problem is. You might be surprised how simple the solution is.
