sealed beams to halogen bulbs conversion??
I want to get some e-code 5 3/4" halogen replacements for my 450SL. I was wondering if any of you have done this, and how much work it entails (mounting, wiring, etc.) I was recommended the site http://www.talbotco.com/e-code_lamps.htm
the high beams are on sale, so I would like to buy them while they're cheap

I'm wondering why you haven't got a reply yet...
Maybe you could try emailing the site owner and see what he thinks? Also post in Tech Help.. there's a lot more people there... Good luck, -Holson-

It really depends on the light. I've got a set of Hellas that require some sort of wiring adapter. I don't have the information on how to do it and everything I try just blows fuses.
I have just recently picked up a set of Cibies that don't require any adapter and they plug in just like the sealed beams. I would recommend looking at the backside, or at least seeing a picture of it.

allright... the pics are up... I still need a pic of the amazing cutoff, but these will have to do for now.
 These are the old ones w/ the housing unscrewed.  This is what comes in the box... one lens, bulb, and dustcover for $45  Plugs right in! no aiming or wiring needed!  Plugged and screwed in  housing in. finished look  New look on an old car

They sure look good. What did it finally cost to buy them? Where did you get them from? Do you see much improvement at night?

He must be too busy driving around in the dark now :p hehehe.
The difference must be night and day!! Those sealed beams weren't even new (Sylvania's Xtravision 6024's or equiv.). I just realized that CIBIE has had these for a while... kinda make me want to get an R107 just to try these on..

sorry about that... it cost 91 dollars and change total, and all I needed was in the package. they plugged right in and fit! I would reccomend this for anyone, as the difference is phenominal. I got them from inter auto parts (on convoy off 52 if you're in SD). I was looking at the Cibies, but they were from 50-60 each online. When I saw the halogens in the store, I bought them in the morning, installed them by lunch, went to class, and saw the amazing difference driving home. I still need a pic of the cutoff because it is amazing.
