Out of Interest..
I recently saw a 1978 450 SL for sale that had AMG badges. The suspension was lowered and had the body kit. I know that the 450 put out 180hp normally but does anyone know what else may have been done to the engine as far as performance goes?
I think its a grey market car as it has the plate holders for a euro plate and the euro bumpers as well as headlights. Only 82,000 too, not even broken in yet

I forget where I read it, but apparently AMG didn't do the whole car at all. All the AMG badges mean is that it could have the body kit, some engine work [of which, I don't know] or both. But there is no guarentee that it has both, unless you look under the hood.
btw, is that 82K kilometers, or miles? |

That is 82,000 miles, but thats still not that bad. Interesting that AMG wouldnt have done the whole car. I would have thought it against thier morals to leave anything without signifigant modification to the entire car. Am I correct in thinking it is a grey market though?

apparently back then AMG didn't do the whole car at 1 time. as far as the mileage, that's great... you can't find too many cars with that low mileage. ironically, I am also selling my '78 450SL with 63 thousand miles, and I hope the low mileage catches the eye of a collector or true enthusiast. As far as grey market, I am not sure about that, because some of the things you mentioned [euro bumpers, euro headlights] are popular upgrades that people do to a 450. if you do end up buying it, then I hope you have fun with it, they are great cars.
