Second question
If I have a MB dealer due the 7,500 mile service, what oil will they use? Will it be a synthetic or dino? If I do it myself, I am uncertain what I would use. I am leaning toward Mobil 1 15W50, but am concerned with comments on this forum about oil leaks and using a synthetic in an older car. I have 51,000 on a 87 560. What are the majority of you using?
Thanks! BD :D :D |
I'm using Mobil 1 5W30. It's advertised as a high mileage version. It seems to be working fine. I'm not losing any oil, but I had my valve stem seals and valve cover seals replaced a little over 1 year ago.

Thanks Mike for your reply, but I am a little confused. I thought that 10W30 would be a high mileage formula and that the 5W was for newer cars? I may be wrong... also I would be apprehensive about running 5W in such a warm climate. I don’t mean to second guess, I just would go a with a higher viscosity. Oh well, guess that’s why I am asking. I know that I will need to replace my seals, they are original. My number 5 cylinder has a wet plug, the rest look great. I will try to do it over the winter but I just wanted to drive the car over the summer, so I put that off.

I would just stick with the dino. I don't think it makes much difference for any pre '97 model.
