Question Soft Top leak

The soft top on my 1990 300 SL just started leaking. I replaced the top 2 years ago. The water is gathering behind the driver's seat, but I can't tell where it is coming from.I'm thinking I have a plugged drain hole somewhere. Can someone tell me where the drain holes are on the R129 models so I can check and see if that is the problem?

Bob

The only drain holes I know of are in the a-pillars. If you are getting water behind the rear seat it could be a seam seal, maybe water gathering up in front of the spoiler (the soft top spoiler, your car may not have one) and then leaking through the seam. The rear part of the soft top sits on the car, so that water runs off. How long has it been since you sealed your canvas? could it be leaking through? does the water bead up? First thing I would do is install the hard top after cleaning all the water up, then see if you are getting water. Good luck!

Oh another thing I should mention, if the water is getting into the passenger side don't ever let it get on the floor under the dash, or under the cabinet behind the seat, there are several controllers under these areas and water will really mess them up. The soft top controller is under the rear cabinet and there are alarm and entry controls under the carpet under the dash.

I just had a new top installed in September of 2003, so the canvas and seams are tight. The old top never leaked and neither did this one until now. I took the hard top off about a month ago and it wasn't leaking. I am worried about the wiring under the driver's seat. The leak is only on the drivers side and appears to be soaking the sponge backing which is the underside of the carpet. That's why I was thinking some kind of a drain hole.
