Under MOT regs the car isnt required to have a cat ie pre 1993

Just remove it and replace with a straight through pipe - BUT - if there is a sensor to check how efficient the cat is - there could be a problem with the management system if the cat isnt doing its job.

If its upstream of the cat itself - I would bypass it
If its in the cat or downstream - sorry it looks like a new cat.
