Question 500SL W107 Seat Mods.

Although the seats in my 1985 500SL Euro look quite like those in my former 107, a 1974, they certainly don't sit the same. While I'll admit to putting on a few kilos between cars, I haven't gotten taller at 195 cm (6'5"). The later seats, even at there lowest adjustment do not allow for comfortable driving position. My head actually makes contact with the hardtop headliner when I'm forced to utilize it. I have changed the stock steering wheel for a Nardi of smaller diameter and this helps only slightly. As the driver's seat is now requiring a re-cover, can anyone site experience in either modifying the seats or mountings or using seats from another Mercedes model? I have seen various Recaro conversions and none has looked quite right.
Thanks
Bruce Baysinger

I don't know anything about changing the seats, but I feel your pain. I'm 6'1" and my head brushes the roof all the time! When we got the car it had a nardi steering wheel, so I don't know how bad it could have been. As far as re-covering your seats, my driver's seat got a tear in the leather, and the passenger's seat is fine, so I just put on those sheepskin seat covers. Cheap fix, if you don't want to re-upholster
