possibly leaving the forum

Well, I got in an argument with my parents, and they won't let me cut off my muffler [last thread]. Instead, they will let me sell the car, and I will get some money if it goes over what they expect to get. Seriously looking at the car, it has 63K miles on it, a new transmission [less than a year old], a new soft top [about 2 years old], new halogen bulbs with euro lenses [hella e-codes with 100/60W H4 bulbs], a new cd player with boxed 6x9's on the bench [sony head unit w/blaupunkt speakers], new billsteins, a K&N drop in filter, new water pump, and a new master cylinder. The bad things are some cracks in the window seals [no leaks, but lotsa wind noise], a dent in the passenger door [didn't scratch the paint, so might be easy to get out], and an oil leak. If any of you guys had an idea what this is worth, [I was thinking in the area of 20+ because of the mileage] I would be happy to hear your opinion, and if anyone is interested in buying it, leave a reply, or email me at yojimborobert@netscape.net

the only pics I have on the net are from the euro lens install.

I forgot to mention... it was origionally purchased in louisiana, so it has the federal emissions package... not the restrictive california package.

Unhappy

I hope that you get to work this out.....seems like a very nice car. I'm sure you'll be able to sell it (although I hope you'll reconsider and stay with us!).

Best of Luck!

I have thought about a replacement, and I will probably get an E-class [300E/E320?] and I'll stay on the board.

I'm goin for the e class more for the room and fuel efficiency [and price!!!] As far as the 89 300E... I'm in san diego, and I'm not gonna want to ship anything, so maybe next time!

I did see a 300E for sale at costco though... it had 170K miles and was in good apparent condition goin for 10 grand. It caught my eye.

No offense intended. Your asking price seems high.

What kind of condition is interior in [seats, dashboard]?

How long have you owned this?

Josh

josh... check out the pictures... this car is in excellent condition. It's got low miles, a new tranny, new mercedes fuel injectors, new shocks, new sound system, probably over 5 grand in new parts [tranny and master cylinder were 3 grand]. check out the website at http://thedotcommune.com/tim/450sl4sale.htm

the seats have sheepskin covers on them [the drivers side has a small tear] and the dash is cracked in 1 place...

capn... you're too much! :p

I'm afraid I have to agree with Josh. The car is in good condition and the mileage is certainly its most excelent feature, but leaking oil, cracked dash, dented door and nearly bone stock (K&N doesn't count, but the lights are nice) don't spell thousands above high book I'm afraid. Although recent maintenance is nice to see, you'll be lucky to find a buyer who's willing to pay you for it. Ask yourself what the car would be worth without a working transmission? I'm speaking from experience here. Two weeks ago I sold my 1980 450SL (needed a place to put my new 540i )which had a completely redone interior, AMG wheels, Euro bumpers, a full system with two AMPs and 10" subs, new paint and soft top and a two year old tranny for $10,000 and given the present used car market I was lucky to get it. My mileage was certainly much higher and location may have something to do with it as well, but at 18.2 you should probably be prepared to have it sit on the market for a while. In any case, I wish you the best of luck.

Sorry Boss but

I am looking at a pristine 92 500sl with 53k for low 20's. That 450 is an 8-12k ride if REALLY mint.

Tough to sell 107 SL

Even thought they are really fun, the 107 SLs don't sell into the high teens unless they are almost as new. Body, seats, dash and wood are expensive to fix. I have put $7000 into mine (so far with a long way to go) and would be lucky to get $12000 with a full AMG appearance package. I don't think I could get the least I would take. Now I will have to keep it forever.
